Would you say it's worth it to install? It seems very tedious to do, and I'd rather have Morrowind's old textures. But it /looks/ interesting. It's not worth it. Screwed up my Morrowind File.
To the point I can't see the screen because I DON'T GODDAMN KNOW ArchMaster of The Great House of Redoran 'The Red Party of Redoran maintains Temple Traditions' For a new Redoran in Solstheim, For Morrowind, Ancestors and Resdaynia! High Lord of the Great House of Indoril and Lord of Almalexia VVV. A clean Morrowind installation with its two expansions. Clean means that if you have a previous version of the overhaul installed or a modded Morrowind you’ll have to reinstall everything. If you have the steam version you’ll have to delete the local files and re-download the game. It’s preferable to install the game OUTSIDE the Program Files(x86) (Windows 7 64-bit version) folder, otherwise you’ll have to grant Morrowind.exe administrator rights. @ 6thHouse Never used FCOM or played Baldur's Gate.
If you’d like to have quality grass in your game, install Grass for Morrowind Rebirth, despite being made for 4.4.3 it is perfectly compatible with the latest version (4.5 as of today). Be sure to take a look to at the recommended Graphic and Gameplay mods for Rebirth (recommended by the same author) and install whichever you like.
Maybe someone else has a clue? After another reinstall of Windows (which, sadly, means another installation of Morrowind because Steam gets really confused otherwise), I've copied all my old data files (mods, textures, etc.) and reinstalled MGSO. Unfortunately, the Distant Land Wizard can't run because I get the following error: Everything else in Morrowind Overhaul worked fine (well, once I got past an initial speedbump that kept popping up). I'm trying to reinstall whatever mods I can find, in case there's some piece of data that somehow didn't copy over from my old Morrowind folder (I just copied and pasted everything, merging folders where necessary), but some of the mods I have either aren't updated anymore (and the websites hosting them don't work) or they're on planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com, which absolutely refuses to load (keeps telling me 'connection timed out'). Any thoughts? What else can I try? While I'm downloading all the mods I can find at MWMH, does anyone have an idea what could be causing my error other than 'a file missing somewhere'?
(That's the extent of my troubleshooting ability. Uu; ) You know, I do think I ran into this error before. It was the East Empire Company Expansion that was causing the problem, and that was because it had land really far away from Vvardenfell. I believe the Distant Land Generator can only handle land so far off from (0,0), but it usually isn't a problem, it's just that the East Empire Company Expansion builds it's land in cells like (210, 501) which is, well, not very close to Vvardenfell or even mainland Morrowind for that matter. It's actually a limitation of the Morrowind engine rather than MGE's fault, the farther out you go the more problems Morrowind has with generating terrain. I'd recommend disabling East Empire Company Expansion if you have it, then generating distant land and re-enabling EEC only after the distant land is generated. Of course if that isn't the mod causing the problem, could you post your mod list?
I might be able to figure out which one is at issue. 'True glory consists in doing what deserves to be written, In writing what deserves to be read' - Pliny the Elder. I don't have East Empire Company Expansion. Let's see if I can get MLOX up and running. From what I can tell, most of those are clothing and items mods, and I doubt those would be causing the problem. Out of the landmass mods though, I do see a bit of an issue.
You have Wizards Islands, Silgrad Tower, and Tamriel Rebuilt all active, and both of the former conflict pretty massively with the latter (unless you're using some kind of special moved version of WI and ST). It might be possible that distant land is trying to render land for two landmasses in the same position, and that could be causing the problem. Otherwise the only other issue I know of is that you're pretty close to Morrowind's hard 250 mod limit, and the game really doesn't handle that many mods all that well (unless you're using OpenMW). 'True glory consists in doing what deserves to be written, In writing what deserves to be read' - Pliny the Elder.
Argh, this installation is getting very problematic. If I try to run the game without doing anything (no updating saves with Wrye Mash, no cleaning files with TEStool—which won't run), it tells me 'Clean Netch Adamantium Armour IIa.esp is not a valid esp file'. I tried to download a replacement, but I can't find a CLEAN one, just the original, presumably tainted with evil GMSTs. And I can't clean it in TEStool, because even after re-downloading it (and that took extra work because its main host site was PES), it still exits to desktop immediately with the error message 'TEStool has stopped working'.
I haven't been able to use Wrye Mash; I installed it, twice, both the stand-alone version and the one that requires Python, but it won't run. I tried following the command line prompts the author suggests, since I know where both Python and Morrowind are installed, but either I'm doing something wrong or the installation is screwed up, because that never works either.
Morrowind is the third installment in the Elder Scrolls series. The game takes place on the island of Vvardenfell, a district in the Dunmeri province of Morrowind. It is smaller in scope than the previous games in the main series, Daggerfall and Arena, yet much more detailed.
This epic, open-ended RPG allows for a wide variety of character designs and play styles. The game continues to be sold on store shelves ten years after its initial release, partially due to the widespread mod community which has the potential to supply Morrowind with new content in perpetuity. From the FAQ of Rebirth: Morrowind Graphic and Sound Overhaul and Morrowind Rebirth Clarification: Morrowind Rebirth is nothing like MGSO. Rebirth is all about enhancing the in-game experience by overhauling cities/landscapes, by fixing bugs and balance issues, and by introducing new creatures, weapons and armor-pieces.
MGSO as you might have noticed by now, is all about graphics and sound. Obviously there are some graphical elements in Rebirth, but these are mainly mesh-replacers, and are aimed to make the in-game models a bit easier on the eyes. With that said, is Morrowind Rebirth compatible with MGSO? That depends! There are some things you need to do in order to avoid issues (though you may still experience some issues).
Start by downloading MGSO, then click the installer and follow the instructions until you reach to 'custom option'-screen. Now keep in mind that you need to tick the 'custom mod' option for each flora region. You will also need to deactivate grass by choosing 'no grass' for both Vvardenfell and Solstheim. Last but not least. Do NOT tick 'Animated Morrowind'. It's not compatible with Morrowind Rebirth.
When you've completed the installation, please continue with Morrowind Rebirth. Extract the files to your Morrowind root folder as stated in the Morrowind Rebirth readme. If you're told to overwrite any files, press 'no' (I've had a few people reporting that pressing 'yes' might cause issues). There's also five plugins included in the MGSO archive that need to be removed: 'Texture Fix 2.0.esm', 'Poorly Placed Object Fix 1.2.esm', 'Morrowind Patch 1.6.5 Beta (BTB Edit).esm', 'Windows Glow' and 'Animated Morrowind'. That should be it.
